Female Ferrets

Description

Female ferrets, called jills, are known for their agile and energetic nature. Typically smaller than males, jills measure around 13 to 18 inches in length, including the tail, and weigh between 1 to 2.5 pounds. Their sleek and slender bodies allow them to navigate tight spaces effortlessly, which complements their inquisitive and playful behavior.

Jills come in various fur colors, such as sable, albino, and chocolate. They reach sexual maturity by about 6 months of age. Unspayed female ferrets that do not mate can experience prolonged heat cycles, leading to potentially fatal conditions like aplastic anemia due to high estrogen levels. Therefore, spaying is recommended for health and to prevent these issues.

Female ferrets thrive on a high-protein diet and need regular veterinary care to maintain their health. Providing them with a stimulating environment, including toys and opportunities to explore, is crucial for their physical and mental well-being. Their social nature makes them excellent pets, enjoying interaction with both humans and other ferrets.
