Description
The Common Musk Turtle, scientifically known as Sternotherus odoratus, is a small freshwater turtle species native to North America. It is also referred to as the Stinkpot due to the musky odor it emits when threatened or handled. These turtles have a dark brown or black shell with a rough texture and can grow up to 5 to 6 inches in length. They are primarily aquatic, inhabiting slow-moving streams, ponds, and marshes. Common Musk Turtles are omnivorous, feeding on a combination of small aquatic animals, insects, crustaceans, and plant matter. They are known for their relatively docile temperament, making them popular as pets among reptile enthusiasts.
